DESCRIPTION:The Tanabe Festival is the grand annual festival of Tokei Shrine in Tanabe City, Wakayama Prefecture, with a history spanning over 460 years. It is regarded as one of the “Three Great Festivals of Kishu,” along with the Waka Festival and the Kokawa Festival.\nWhile the main festivities take place on July 24 (Eve Festival) and July 25 (Main Festival), preliminary events such as the pulling of floats begin in early July in various parish neighborhoods.\nThe festival was originally held on June 24 and 25 during the Edo period but was rescheduled to its current dates in 1907.
