DESCRIPTION:The Goshinko Festival (Nagoshi Taisai) at Usa Shrine is the most magnificent annual event. Historically called “Oharai-e,” this summer purification ritual dates back to the Heian period.\nDuring the festival, the three main deities (Hachiman Ōkami, Hime Ōkami, and Empress Jingū) are carried in mikoshi (portable shrines) from the Upper Shrine’s main hall to the Tōmiya within the shrine grounds.
