DESCRIPTION:The Fukushima Waraji Festival traces its origins back to the winter ritual Shinobu Sanzan Akatsuki Mairi, which has continued since the Edo period. Since 1970 (Shōwa 45), it has been held separately as a summer festival.It takes place in early August, where participants parade through the streets carrying Japan’s largest straw sandal (waraji).
