Toukasan Festival (Yukatadekin Festival) 2024
とうかさん大祭 (Yukata de Kin Matsuri) is a summer festival held annually for three days from the first Friday to Sunday of June at Enryaku-ji Temple’s Inari Daimeigu Shrine in Mikawa-cho, Naka-ku, Hiroshima City. It is widely known across Japan as the starting point for wearing yukata (summer kimono) in the Hiroshima region, attracting visitors dressed in colorful yukata attire.
In 2023, the festival is scheduled to take place from June 2nd (Friday) to June 4th (Sunday). The central area around Nakamise Street is lined with stalls, creating a lively atmosphere, drawing around 450,000 visitors each year.
The history of the Tōka-san Daishi dates back to 1619, honoring the deity “Inari Daimeigu.” The festival was originally held on the traditional lunar calendar date of the Boy’s Festival (Tango no Sekku). However, starting from the Showa era, it shifted to the new calendar, occurring in late May or late June, approximately one month earlier or later each year. Since 1955 (Showa 30), the festival has been consistently held on June 9th and 10th of the new calendar.
