In the 19th century in England, there was a solitary confinement cell located three floors underground in the Tower of London with a thick iron door that blocked out all light.
A single prisoner was held captive in this cell, surrounded by a peculiar set of instructions: “The jailer must be hard of hearing.”
Prisoner No. 252 was known as “the prisoner whose voice must never be heard.”
