Nada Kenka Festival 2025
The Nada Kenka Festival is the common name for the autumn grand festival held at Matsubara Hachiman Shrine in Shirahama-cho, Himeji City, Hyogo Prefecture. It takes place every year on October 14 and 15. The highlight events include the ritual of clashing three mikoshi (portable shrines)—Ichinomiya, Ninomaru, and Sannomaru—as well as the dynamic parade of lavishly decorated floats from seven former villages.
It is one of the most iconic autumn festivals in the Banshu region. Designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Asset by both Himeji City and Hyogo Prefecture, the “Matsubara Hachiman Shrine Autumn Grand Festival Parade” is a cherished tradition. The drum sounds from the lion float of the old Matsubara village were also selected as one of the “100 Soundscapes of Japan.”
