Overview
Gion Matsuri, one of Japan’s three major festivals, will be held in Kyoto from July 1 to 31, 2025.
Originating in the Jōgan era (859–877) as a ritual to ward off epidemics, the festival features a month-long series of traditional events.
The highlight of the festival is the Yamaboko Junko (Float Procession), held twice:

July 17 for the Saki Matsuri (23 floats)

July 24 for the Ato Matsuri (11 floats)
