Tokyo Koenji Awa Odori 2026

The Tokyo Koenji Awa Odori is an Awa Dance festival held annually in late August (on the final Saturday and Sunday) in Koenji, Suginami Ward, Tokyo. It is the second largest Awa Odori event after the Tokushima City Awa Odori and is the largest of its kind in the Tokyo metropolitan area. The festival takes place along the shopping streets stretching from JR Koenji Station to Tokyo Metro Shin-Koenji Station, as well as along Kōnan-dori Avenue.
With each passing year, its popularity has grown, and now even teams from Tokushima—the birthplace of Awa Odori—participate, drawing many attendees from distant regions. Together with the Asakusa Samba Carnival, which is held on the same day, it is considered one of Tokyo’s representative summer festivals. Around 10,000 dancers take part, making it a beloved seasonal tradition in Tokyo’s late summer.
