Shizuoka Matsuri 2026
Shizuoka Matsuri is a city festival held in Shizuoka City, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. It takes place over three days—from the first Friday to Sunday preceding April 17, the death anniversary of Tokugawa Ieyasu—centered around Sunpu Castle Park near Shizuoka Station and the surrounding downtown area. Inspired by the historical episode in which Tokugawa Ieyasu enjoyed cherry-blossom viewing in Sunpu with his retainers, the festival began in 1957 and features the “Ogosho Hanami Procession” as its main event. It is widely loved by citizens as a spring festival celebrated during the cherry blossom season.
