Shiroyone Senmaida Rice Terraces Best time 2024
白米千枚田 (Shiro-yone Senmaida) is a terraced rice field located in Shirokane-machi, Wajima City, Ishikawa Prefecture. Despite being referred to as Senmaida (meaning a thousand rice paddies), there are actually 1004 paddies according to local information boards. There is also a theory that the name originates from the concept of “narrow paddies.” The smallest paddy has an area of approximately 0.2 square meters.
In 2001, Shiro-yone Senmaida was designated as a national scenic beauty spot under the name “Shiro-yone Senmaida.”
The best seasons to visit Senmaida are April, May, July, August, September, and October. It is the only place in Japan where rainwater cultivation is practiced, providing a unique opportunity to observe a valuable ecosystem. Please note that there is no parking nearby, so visitors should plan accordingly.
