Himeji Castle Autumn best time 2024

Experience the elegant autumn ambiance in a Japanese garden that exudes the nostalgic atmosphere of the Edo period, set against the backdrop of Himeji Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This pond and stream-style Japanese garden covers an expansive area exceeding 30,000 square meters and is often utilized as a filming location for historical dramas and movies, thanks to its scenery reminiscent of the Edo period.

In autumn, you can enjoy various foliage points within the garden, such as Shion-sai and Tsukiyama Chisen, which offer views of a waterfall and a large pond with the borrowed landscape of Himeyama forest. The garden comes alive with the vibrant colors of autumn leaves. You can also savor a meal at Kassuiken, overlooking the garden’s autumn foliage. The peak period for autumn foliage is typically from mid to late November.

The garden features nine distinct areas, each with a unique charm that transports visitors back to the Edo period. It is a popular location for filming movies and dramas, offering an atmosphere full of character. During the period from November 17th (Friday) to December 3rd (Sunday) in 2023, the Momiji Kai (Autumn Foliage Viewing) event will take place. Throughout this period, the opening hours will be extended until 8:00 PM, and the illuminated autumn foliage within the garden will create a fantastical and enchanting atmosphere different from the daytime experience.
