Daisen Natsuyama Hiraki Festival 2024
The Daisen Summer Mountain Opening Festival is an annual event held on the first Saturday and Sunday of June in Daisen, a part of the Tottori Prefecture’s National Park in Japan. The festival is conducted to pray for the safety of those embarking on the ascent of Mount Daisen. The festivities include a torchlight procession, where sacred fires are lit, during the pre-festival night, and a mountain-top ceremony the following day.
In 2023, the Daisen Summer Mountain Opening Festival took place with the pre-festival night on June 3 (Saturday) and the main festival on June 4 (Sunday). The pre-festival night transformed the stone-paved path to Daisen Temple into a fantastical and enchanting atmosphere.
Known for reviving the reverence once bestowed upon it as the “Fire God Mountain,” the Daisen Summer Mountain Opening Festival attracts numerous mountain enthusiasts and those who hold deep respect for the sacredness of the mountain. The event serves as a gathering for climbers and nature lovers, creating a connection to the historical significance of the mountain.
