Kankakei Gorge Autumn leaves When 2024

The autumn foliage viewed from the ropeway is breathtaking at one of Japan’s top scenic spots, counted among the Three Great Valleys of Japan and featured with one Michelin star in the Michelin Green Guide Shikoku. The ropeway travels through the deeply cut valley, offering a panoramic view that allows you to appreciate both the scenic beauty of the Kankakei Gorge, celebrated as one of Japan’s top three beautiful valleys, and the coastal beauty of the Seto Inland Sea. In the fall, the entire island is adorned with red and yellow hues, and the autumn leaves along the unique rock formations surrounding the Kankakei Gorge are particularly magnificent. Moreover, the mountain cherry blossoms in spring and the fresh greenery in early summer are also beautiful, providing enjoyment throughout all four seasons.

Points of Interest: The naturally sculpted landscapes formed over many years are captivating, with the highlight being the vibrant autumn foliage that sets the entire mountain ablaze. On November 3rd (a national holiday), the annual “Kankakei Momiji Chakai” (Maple Tea Ceremony) is held. Attendees can enjoy matcha (green tea) and olive manju (sweet buns) while gazing at the autumn leaves from premium seats overlooking the gorge.
