Hosenka – The Movie 2025

“It was a worthless life, wasn’t it?”
Just as Akutsu, an old man serving a life sentence, is facing death in his solitary cell, a voice speaks to him—the voice of a hōsenka (balsam flower) that can speak human language.
Through their “conversation,” Akutsu begins to reflect on his past.
Summer of 1987, a seaside town.
Akutsu, a small-time yakuza, begins living in an apartment where balsam flowers bloom in the garden, thanks to his senior, Tsutsumi. There, he shares his life with a younger woman named Nana and her son.
They watch grand fireworks from the porch—a peaceful and happy time.
But one day, Akutsu suddenly needs a large sum of money. He and Tsutsumi hatch a plan to steal 300 million yen from the gang—
“Only those who have burned their bridges have a chance to turn it all around.”
This is the story of a man’s life and love.
