Ako Gishisai Festival 2024
The Akō Gishi Matsuri, held annually on December 14th in Akō City, Hyogo Prefecture, is a festival that celebrates the day when the loyal retainers of Akō accomplished their vendetta. The event, which has been held since 1903 (Meiji 36), serves as a grand commemoration of their heroic deeds and stands as the largest festival in Akō City.
During the Akō Gishi Matsuri, parades and performances inspired by the Chūshingura (The Treasury of Loyal Retainers) story take place. A highlight of the festival is the “Chūshingura Parade,” featuring processions of daimyo (feudal lords) and the loyal retainers. Additionally, there is a marketplace showcasing local products from Akō and nearby towns with historical connections to the Chūshingura tale. Various events are held throughout the city during the festival.
The 121st Akō Gishi Matsuri is scheduled to take place on December 14, 2024.
