Amabiki Kannon Temple (Rakuhoji) Hydrangea When 2024
At the Amefuri Kannon in Sakuragawa City, Ibaraki Prefecture, the “Hydrangea Festival” is held annually from June 10th to July 20th. The temple grounds boast the natural growth of 5,000 hydrangea bushes representing 100 different varieties, including wild species such as Yamajisai, Koajisai, Tamajisai, Tsuruajisai, and Noriutsugi.
Amefuri Kannon is the 24th pilgrimage site of the Bando Kannon Pilgrimage, known for its divine efficacy in safe childbirth, child-rearing, fertility, warding off misfortune, and attracting wealth. It is also renowned as a “Flower Temple” where visitors can enjoy cherry blossoms, peonies, azaleas, and autumn foliage.
During the Hydrangea Festival, the temple is illuminated until 8:00 PM, and the gates close at 9:00 PM. Admission is free.
