Bitchu Matsuyama Castle Autumn leaves When 2024
The autumn foliage at Bitchu Matsuyama Castle in Takahashi City, Okayama Prefecture, typically reaches its peak from early to mid-November each year. This castle, built during the Kamakura period, is situated atop the summit of Mt. Gagyu at an elevation of 430 meters and is renowned as the only remaining mountain castle with an existing keep.
During the autumn foliage season, visitors can ascend Mt. Gagyu to witness the impressive large maple trees. Additionally, from late September to early April, especially in October and November, the castle often presents a fantastical sight enveloped in sea clouds, earning it the moniker “Castle in the Sky.”
The Takahashi City Tourism Association offers a special castle seal adorned with autumn leaves, available for purchase exclusively in November.
