Chusonji Temple – Hiraizumi Autumn leaves When 2024
A renowned ancient temple, famous for the Kondou (Golden Hall) and the mausoleum of the fourth head of the Oshu Fujiwara clan. Founded by Jikaku Daishi in the year 850 (Jyoshou 3), it was reconstructed by the first head of the Fujiwara clan, Kiyohira, in the early 12th century to pray for the eternal peace of the deceased warriors. This historic site is also registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In autumn, the Irohamomiji (Japanese maple) and Yamamomiji along the approach from Dainichido to Kondou exhibit a splendid display of autumn colors. Typically, the foliage begins to change color around late October, reaching its peak from mid to late November.
Highlights: Throughout the serene precinct enveloped in mystical silence, you can appreciate the contrast between the dense, ancient cedar trees and the vibrant hues of the foliage, especially along the Moon-viewing Slope on the approach. From October 28 (Saturday) to November 12 (Sunday) in 2023, the Autumn Foliage Galaxy event will take place, featuring illumination from 16:00 to 18:30.
