Ebino Kogen Autumn leaves When 2024
In Miyazaki Prefecture, south of Ebino City, lies a highland region at an elevation of 1200 meters, part of the northern section of the Kirishima-Kinkowan National Park, which was the first national park designated in Japan. This area is known for its rich natural beauty and is considered one of the premier tourist destinations in the prefecture. Popular trekking spots include Kanpukai and Koshikidake, among various other mountains, which sprawl across the highland. The region is dotted with volcanic lakes such as Fudou Pond, Rokukannon Miike, and Shiromi Pond. In autumn, the area transforms into a spectacular viewpoint with vibrant autumn foliage.
One of the highlights is Rokukannon Miike, considered the most beautiful volcanic crater lake in the Kirishima region. The lake has a cobalt-blue surface due to its acidic nature and measures 400 meters in diameter with a circumference of 1500 meters and a depth of 14 meters. The rich forest surrounding the lake is a mix of broadleaf trees like Mizunara and Kaede, and conifers like Fir and Red Pine. The collaboration between the changing seasons and the beautiful interplay of mountains and lakes makes it a breathtaking sight.
Several trekking courses are available in the area, including the Pond Exploration Course, selected as one of the “Forest Bathing Forests Top 100.” This provides visitors with the opportunity to enjoy trekking while immersing themselves in the natural beauty of the region.
