The autumn foliage at Enryaku-ji Temple on Mount Hiei typically begins to change color around mid-October and reaches its peak from late October to mid-November each year. For the year 2024, the best time to view the autumn leaves is expected to be from mid-November to late November.

Throughout the entire precincts of Enryaku-ji, the Hieizan Driveway, and the Oku-Hieizan Driveway, approximately 2000 Japanese maple trees (Momiji) and 1000 cherry blossom trees (Sakura) display vibrant autumn colors. The foliage along the Yokogawa area is particularly renowned for its stunning beauty.

Enryaku-ji Temple on Mount Hiei is recognized as one of the cultural treasures of ancient Kyoto and is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Revered as the “mother mountain” of Japanese Buddhism, it has been a center for the cultivation of eminent religious figures and a place for the study and practice of Buddhism.
