Fukuroda Falls Autumn leaves When 2024
One of Japan’s prominent waterfalls, the enchanting Fukiware Falls, is located in Ibaraki Prefecture. Boasting a height of 120 meters and a width of 73 meters, it proudly holds the title of one of Japan’s three famous waterfalls. Due to its four-tiered cascading flow, it is also known as “Yodo Falls.” Throughout the changing seasons, you can witness the waterfall’s diverse expressions. In autumn, the surroundings of the falls are adorned with vibrant colors, including Japanese maple (Iroha-kaede), large-leaved maple (Oomomiji), Japanese oak (Kunugi), Japanese oak (Nara), and Japanese nettle tree (Yamaurushi) turning shades of red and yellow. The beauty of the scenery during the autumn foliage season is eloquently described in a poem by Saigyo Hoshi: “With the path of flowers and crimson leaves, the mountain princess weaves her brocade at Fukiware Falls.”
Highlights: From October 1, 2023 (Sunday) to January 31, 2024 (Wednesday), the Fukiware Falls illumination event, “2023 Daigo Laito,” takes place from sunset to 20:00 (19:00 in December and January) daily. The event showcases the fantastical beauty of the illuminated waterfall and autumn foliage at night. For inquiries, please contact the Daigo Town Tourism Association at 0295-72-0285. Please note that around November 10th (as is typical in previous years), the fall foliage is expected to be at its peak, leading to anticipated crowds on weekends and holidays.
