Fukushima Waraji Festival 2025

The Fukushima Waraji Festival is a summer highlight of Fukushima City, held annually since 1970. It originates from a traditional Edo-period ritual for foot health. A massive waraji (straw sandal), about 12 meters long and weighing 2 tons, is carried through the streets by enthusiastic participants. The festival also features dance parades, taiko drum performances, and food stalls—bringing vibrant energy to the summer night.
