Hinokuni Festival 2024
The “Hinokuni Matsuri” (Fire Festival) is an annual festival held in Kumamoto City, Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan, every August during the first week for three days.
Overview: The first edition of the festival took place in 1978. The main venue is Kumamoto Castle, where on the first day, the sacred flame is collected and lit. The opening day features the FMK Opening Stage and the TKU Summer Fireworks Festival. On the second day, the “Otemoyan So-Odori” dance is performed, the streetcars are suspended, turning the area into a pedestrian zone, and participants join in the dance.
Previously, the festival was held from August 11th to the 13th, but currently, it is held on the first Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of August.
