Hirosaki Neputa 2024
The Hirosaki Neputa Matsuri (Hirosaki Neputa Festival) is a Nebuta festival held in Hirosaki City, Aomori Prefecture, Japan. It is one of the “Hirosaki Four Great Festivals,” alongside the Hirosaki Sakura Matsuri (Hirosaki Cherry Blossom Festival), Hirosaki Castle Kiku to Momiji Matsuri (Hirosaki Castle Chrysanthemum and Autumn Leaves Festival), and Hirosaki Castle Yuki-Toro Matsuri (Hirosaki Castle Snow Lantern Festival). During this festival, a large number of citizens pull illuminated floats featuring warrior paintings through the city while shouting the traditional cry “Yaayado.”
The Hirosaki Neputa features two types of floats: the Ōgi Neputa (fan-shaped) and the Kumi Neputa (figurine-shaped). Approximately 80 Neputa floats, the highest number in the prefecture, participate in the procession, creating a vibrant and lively atmosphere throughout the city.
