Hiroshima Castle autumn leaves when 2024
In the central part of Hiroshima City, vibrant autumn foliage announces the arrival of autumn around Hiroshima Castle. The castle was constructed by Mori Terumoto in the 17th year of the Tensho era (1589). It is also known as “Carp Castle” (Rijo). Although the castle’s main keep was designated a national treasure, it collapsed due to the atomic bombing in 1945. The current five-story keep is a reconstruction completed in 1958.
Inside the castle, which now serves as a historical museum, visitors can explore exhibits on weaponry and learn about the history of Hiroshima Castle and the surrounding castle town. Hiroshima Castle is recognized as one of Japan’s Top 100 Castles.
