Hita Gion Festival 2025
The Hita Gion Festival is a traditional event held in Hita City, Oita Prefecture, registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. With a history of about 300 years, it is held to ward off epidemics and natural disasters and pray for safety and peace. The festival features parade floats and Gion music, especially the nighttime “Ban-yama” event which creates a magical atmosphere and marks the festival’s climax.
