Hono no Saiten 2024
The “Festival of Flames” is a fireworks event centered around hand-held fireworks held in Toyohashi City, Aichi Prefecture. Hand-held fireworks are a traditional type of fireworks unique to the Toyokawa and Enshu regions that have been passed down since the Edo period, with Yoshida Shrine in Toyohashi City being considered its place of origin. Participants hold bamboo tubes filled with gunpowder in both hands, launching the fireworks while being showered with sparks.
The Festival of Flames was established in 1996 as part of the 90th anniversary celebration of the enforcement of Toyohashi City’s city system, initiated by the Toyohashi Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Youth Division. The goal is to utilize the local tradition and cultural heritage of hand-held fireworks as a valuable tourism resource, contributing to the revitalization of the region.
