Jogi Nyorai Saihoji Temple(Miyagi)Autumn leaves When 2024

Located in Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture, this temple is associated with the Taira clan, who lost in the Genpei War. It is dedicated to the Amida Buddha, protected by Taira no Suetake, a retainer of the defeated Taira clan. Affectionately known as “Jogi-san” or “Joge-san,” the temple features a powerful main gate. Within the premises, you can find the registered tangible cultural property “Sueno-do” (Suetake Hall) and the Emperor Antoku’s grave, creating an atmosphere that resonates with the history of the Taira clan. The temple is also renowned for its vibrant autumn foliage, attracting many visitors during the peak season.

Highlights include the breathtaking autumn foliage surrounding the five-story pagoda. The combination of the pagoda, a pond with swimming carp, and the autumn colors creates a picturesque setting, perfect for capturing stunning photographs from any angle.
