Karikomi Pond Autumn Leaves best time 2024
The reflection of autumn leaves on the surface of the Kari Komaike Pond is truly enchanting. However, please note that as of 2023, access to Kari Komaike is restricted due to a major disaster in March (landslides, collapse of Zengoro Bridge) and the effects of heavy rainfall in July. The road connecting to Kari Komaike, Prefectural Route 173 (Kamikoike Katsuhara Line), is closed from Hatogaya (access is possible up to Hatogaya). Please check official websites for detailed information.
Located in the southern part of the Hakusan National Park, Kari Komaike is a highland lake with a circumference of about 400 meters. Surrounded by unique flora such as Osmunda japonica and Sawagurumi, the pond is home to rare creatures like the Japanese giant salamander. The serene atmosphere, resembling a mirror-like surface, reflects the vibrant colors of autumn leaves, including Japanese maples, rowan trees, Japanese maple, and beech trees—a truly graceful spectacle.
Points of interest include the opportunity to appreciate uncommon flora and fauna that are not usually encountered, as well as a diverse array of autumn foliage.
