KoeKabu: Enjoying Kabuki through Narration – Ume, Matsu, and Sakura Chapter 2025
Event Name
KoeKabu: Enjoying Kabuki through Narration – Ume, Matsu, and Sakura Chapter 2025
Overview
One of the three great Kabuki masterpieces, “Sugawara Denju Tenarai Kagami,” is performed with an original focus on the triplet brothers (Umeomaru, Matsuomaru, and Sakuramaru) who bear fate.
Famous scenes such as “Kuruma-biki,” where brothers split into enemy and ally, “Ga no Iwai,” depicting Sakuramaru’s final moments, and the moving “Terakoya,” showing Matsuomaru’s heartbreaking decision to sacrifice his own child, depict universal sorrows of partings between parent and child, master and servant, and brothers.
Presented at the elegant Mitsukoshi Theatre, this performance offers a timeless, beloved, and moving story through KoeKabu’s unique narration style.
