The single cherry blossom tree at Koiwai Farm in Iwate Prefecture is a prominent attraction during the “2nd Shizukuishi Winter Festival at Koiwai Farm,” scheduled to take place from January 27, 2024 (Saturday). This iconic cherry blossom tree is well-known as a picturesque spot, with the backdrop of Mt. Iwate covered in lingering snow against a green pasture. It typically reaches full bloom from late April to early May, around the Golden Week period.
The meadow where the single cherry blossom tree stands was originally a grazing area for cows. In the past, to protect the cows from the intense summer heat, the cherry tree was planted as a “shade tree” to provide shade.
