Korankei Autumn leaves best time to see 2024
The valley created by the Yahagawa River tributary, Tomoe River, known as Korankei (香嵐渓), is famous for its autumn foliage and features such as the katakuri flowers. The origin of Korankei dates back to the Kan’ei era, the 11th year of the Edo period, when Sanei Osho, the 11th head priest of Kosokuji Temple, planted trees. Today, it is renowned as one of the leading autumn foliage spots in the country, adorned with approximately 4,000 maple trees. Crossing the Asuke River, you can also stroll through the old townscape reminiscent of the former post town.
The peak viewing period for the autumn foliage in Korankei is typically from mid to late November. Around 4,000 maple trees transform into shades of red and yellow, creating a beautiful tapestry that adorns the surface of the Tomoe River.
