Kotohiragu Shrine Kagawa autumn leaves When 2024
In Kagawa Prefecture, in the town of Kotohira in Nakatado District, Konpira-san, also known as Kotohira-gu, is a Shinto shrine famous for its autumn foliage. The peak viewing period for autumn leaves at Konpira-san is typically from late October to late November each year. The Red Leaf Festival in 2023 is scheduled for November 10 (Friday) starting at 10:00.
Prominent spots to enjoy the autumn colors include the entire area of the Ura-sando (rear approach) within the shrine grounds and the surroundings of the Shiramine Shrine along the Oku-sha-do (inner shrine path). The types of trees contributing to the autumn foliage include Japanese maple (momiji) and ginkgo.
Konpira-san hosts the Red Leaf Festival annually on November 10th. During this festival, a procession of miko (shrine maidens) marches to the main shrine, where a ceremony takes place. In the ceremony, offerings adorned with branches of red leaves are presented, and the chief priest recites prayers. The “Hasshomeno-mai” (Dance of the Eight Maidens) is also performed as part of the festivities.
