Kumano Nachi Taisha shrine Autumn leaves best time 2024

Beautifully tinted autumn leaves and the powerful scenery of the waterfall characterize the Kumano Sanzan, one of which is the Kumano Nachi Taisha, the head shrine of the numerous Kumano shrines nationwide. The ancient shrine, with Nachi Falls as the origin of its faith, is well-known as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Every year, from early to late November, the area around Nachi Falls and the main hall is adorned with vibrant autumn colors. Additionally, on November 14, 2023 (Tuesday), the Shrine Deity Festival and Autumn Leaves Festival will take place. The First Shrine Takigami is the deity of Nachisan, and residents of the mountain participate as parishioners, conducting a festival at the Takigami shrine. The festival decorates the autumn leaves of Nachi in front of the deity, expressing gratitude for the blessings of nature and offering red leaves as a tribute.

 

Highlights:

The autumn leaves of Nachi Falls, boasting the highest drop of 133 meters in Japan, are also a notable attraction. The collaboration of the famous waterfall and the autumn leaves provides a spectacular sight.
