Kyoto Imperial Palace Autumn leaves when 2024

The landscape where the remnants of aristocratic residences blend with the dance of maple leaves characterizes the “Kyoto Imperial Palace Park,” which was originally lined with the mansions of court nobles until the late Edo period. Later, it was developed into a national park. The park, maintained since the Meiji era, features lush woodlands. As autumn deepens, gingko trees turn a brilliant yellow before the maples gradually display their vibrant colors, creating a scene that is truly captivating.

Numerous large maple trees are strategically planted throughout the park, making it a delightful experience to sit on the benches and leisurely enjoy the view. Typically, the peak time for autumn foliage is from late November to mid-December.

Highlights: The Kyoto Imperial Palace Park spans approximately 65 square meters around the Kyoto Imperial Palace and the Kyoto Sentogosho. With around 50,000 trees, including plum, cherry, and maple, the park offers beautiful natural scenery throughout the seasons. Additionally, historical remnants such as the tea house Shusuitei, once used as a villa by the Kujo family, and the site of the Kangan-no-ma residence of the Kamo family, add a historical dimension to the park.
