Matsuyama Minato Matsuri 2024
The Matsuyama Port Festival (Matsuyama Minato Matsuri) is an annual summer festival featuring a fireworks display held around the Mitsuhama Port in Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture. It takes place every year on the first Sunday of August, starting from 1951. However, it was canceled in 2020 and 2021.
The festival showcases one of Shikoku’s largest fireworks, including a 15-inch shell, and is known for its three-dimensional display of fireworks, whether viewed from land, sea, or underwater. On the event day, extensive traffic restrictions are enforced around the venue, and temporary parking lots are set up in nearby parks. The roads surrounding the venue become pedestrian zones, leading to changes in bus schedules and some routes being terminated before reaching the venue.
To accommodate the large number of spectators, the Iyo Railway Takahama Line increases the number of cars (three-car trains) and frequency. It is strongly recommended to use public transportation as much as possible. For those wanting a view from the sea, sightseeing boats and cruise ships operate during the festival.
