Morioka Castle Autumn leaves When 2024
盛岡城跡公園 (also known as Iwate Park), built on a hill overlooking the confluence of the Kitakami River and Nakatsu River, was constructed by Nanbu Shinnai. Although the castle keep was dismantled during the Meiji Restoration, the park, covering over 9 hectares, has preserved the dignified stone walls and castle ruins, making it a beloved destination.
Within the vast park, you can find various literary monuments, including a monument dedicated to Ishikawa Takuboku, as well as the Morioka Historical and Cultural Museum, providing opportunities to engage with culture. During the autumn foliage season, the park becomes a vibrant display of colors with over 400 precious maple and deciduous trees, such as Irohamomiji, Itayakaede, and Nanakamado, turning shades of red and yellow. The peak viewing period usually occurs from late October, featuring a captivating contrast between the robust stone walls made of granite quarried from within the castle and the graceful autumn foliage.
