Nada Fighting Festival 2024
灘のけんか祭り (Nada no Kenka Matsuri) is the common name for the autumn festival held at Matsubara Hachimangu Shrine in Shirahama-cho, Himeji City, Hyogo Prefecture. It takes place annually on October 14th and 15th. The festival is known for its distinctive ritual where three mikoshi (portable shrines) from the First, Second, and Third Bailey of the castle are collided, as well as the vigorous competition of lavishly decorated floats from the former seven villages.
Among the autumn festivals in Harima (a region in Hyogo Prefecture), this festival is one of the most representative. Designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property for Himeji City and Hyogo Prefecture under the title of “Matsubara Hachimangu Shrine Autumn Festival Style,” it is celebrated for its cultural significance. The festival is also renowned for the drumming sound of the lion floats from the former Matsubara Village, earning a place in the “100 Soundscapes of Japan.”
