Naruto City Awa Odori Dance 2024

The Naruto Awa Odori (Naruto-shi Awa Odori) is an Awa Odori dance festival held in Naruto City, Tokushima Prefecture, annually for three days from August 9th to August 11th. During this period, Awa Odori dances take place in various locations across Tokushima, but the Naruto Awa Odori is one of the earliest and leading events.

Overview: Along the main avenue extending west from Naruto Station, two paid dance stages are set up on the east and west sides. Additionally, performances unfold in the Odo Gintengai shopping district parallel to the south and in the parking lot of the discount store “Dairekusu” near the station. Traffic restrictions are implemented in these areas, turning them into pedestrian zones during the festival. The vicinity of the paid dance stages is lined with temporary stalls, creating a lively atmosphere with a large turnout of people. Not only from Naruto City but also from Tokushima City, renowned dance troupes participate in the event.

Leading up to the festival, the Naruto City Summer Fireworks Festival takes place along the Naryo River on August 7th. On August 8th, the Naruto City Cultural Hall hosts the “Naruto City Selection Awa Odori.” On the morning of the first day, August 9th, dances are performed at the Senjojiki open area in Naruto Park. Additionally, the “Awa Odori IN Naruto no Michi” dance is held on the “Whirlpool Road” of the Great Naruto Bridge, mainly on Saturdays from March to June and from September to October.
