Nasu ropeway Autumn leaves When 2024
The Nasu Mountain Range, including the main peak Chausudake, Asahidake, and Sanbon-yarigatake, offers a breathtaking autumn foliage landscape with beautiful colors of nanakamado (rowan) and dakekanba (bamboo grass). Typically, the foliage starts changing color in mid-September at higher elevations, reaching its peak from late September to early October, gradually moving to different locations.
Approximately a 30-minute walk from the 9th station of Chausudake’s Nasu Ropeway summit station, you’ll encounter a mesmerizing scene where the mountainside is covered in what appears to be a red carpet. Another 40-minute walk leads to Ubagahira, a location with a stunning backdrop of Chausudake and vibrant autumn foliage spreading across the mountainside, creating a truly spectacular panorama.
Highlights: While it involves about an hour of light hiking from the ropeway summit station to Ubagahira, the panoramic view of the autumn foliage is well worth the effort. After enjoying the foliage, it’s recommended to relax and rejuvenate in the hot springs. There are numerous hot springs at the foot of Chausudake, including Nasu, Oomaru, and Kita, many of which offer day-use bathing facilities (subject to operating days, hours, and restrictions – it’s advisable to check in advance).
