Noboribetsu Jigoku Festival 2025

The Noboribetsu Jigoku Festival is based on a legend where, on the last Saturday and Sunday of August every year, the lid of the hell’s cauldron in Noboribetsu Onsen’s Jigokudani opens, and Enma Daioh (the King of Hell) arrives with demons at Noboribetsu Onsen.

The festival features performances such as Noboribetsu Taiko drumming, demon mikoshi (portable shrines) carried by students of Noboribetsu Junior High School, bear dances, and demon dances.
