Sanbutsuji Temple Autumn leaves When 2024
Sanbutsu-ji, located in Tottori Prefecture, is a sacred site of mountain Buddhism, founded as a place of ascetic training by the monk En in 706 AD. The temple boasts national treasures and is particularly renowned for its autumn foliage, reaching its peak in early November. Passing by the treasure hall showcasing numerous temple treasures, visitors ascend stone steps to encounter the main hall, which embodies the essence of Buddhism. The journey from the main hall to the national treasure, the “Nageire Hall,” involves a round-trip hike of approximately 120 minutes. The annual Sanbutsu-ji Fire Festival takes place on the last Sunday of October.
A notable attraction is the famous and perilous national treasure, the “Nageire Hall” of Sanbutsu-ji’s Bungaku-do. Sitting on the veranda of the hall, one can enjoy the breathtaking view of the spread of autumn foliage beneath. It’s essential to check safety precautions before embarking on the climb.
