Sankeien Autumn leaves When 2024
Experiencing Ancient City-like Autumn Foliage in Yokohama
Founded by entrepreneur Tomitaro Hara (also known as Sankie) in 1906, Sankeien Garden is a Japanese garden spanning 175,000 square meters. The grounds feature numerous historically significant buildings relocated from Kyoto and Kamakura. From mid-November to mid-December, the garden transforms into a picturesque scene with vibrant autumn foliage, including gingko trees, maples, and Japanese acers. Particularly stunning locations include the surroundings of the Choshukaku Pavilion in the Inner Garden and the Yofuku-an and Rindoh-an in the Outer Garden.
Highlights:
- From November 23rd (National Holiday) to December 10th (Sunday), the “Autumn Foliage Illumination” will be held on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays until 19:30 (last entry at 19:00). The illumination showcases the autumn foliage and historic structures in shades of Japan Gold, creating a soft and enchanting atmosphere. Guided by gentle lights, visitors can immerse themselves in a fantastical space and appreciate an extraordinary view reminiscent of an ancient city in Yokohama.
