Shiogama Shrine Sakura When 2024
In the precincts of Shiogama Shrine (Shiogama Jinja) located in Shiogama City, Miyagi Prefecture, there are approximately 300 cherry blossom trees. Among them, 27 trees are designated as a National Natural Monument known as “Shiogama Sakura.”
Shiogama Sakura is a type of double-flowered cherry blossom (Yaezakura) with pale pink, large flowers. Each blossom has 35 to 50 petals with serrated tips. Its flowering season is relatively late, typically reaching full bloom in early May each year.
Within the shrine grounds, in addition to Shiogama Sakura, you can find Somei Yoshino cherry trees, double-flowered weeping cherry blossoms (Shidarezakura), and more. The shrine also features 14 buildings designated as Important Cultural Properties and a traditional Japanese garden.
