Shorinzan Darumaji Temple Autumn leaves When 2024
Take a leisurely stroll through the grounds surrounded by red and yellow trees. Established in 1697 (Genroku 10), this Zen temple has its origins in the legend of the Daruma doll, founded by the visiting Chinese monk Shinetsu Zenji. It was established as a temple guarding the rear demon gate of Maebashi Castle and is also known for enshrining the Big Dipper for directional protection. The spacious 56,000 square meter grounds come alive with the colors of maples, ginkgos, and nishikigi trees from early November to early December annually. Visitors can enjoy a slow walk through the temple grounds while taking in the autumn foliage. It is highly recommended to take photos with the backdrop of red and yellow foliage and Daruma dolls.
Highlights: From late November to early December, leaf art exhibitions and displays take place in various areas such as in front of the main hall and in front of the thatched-roof Kannon Hall. Visitors can enjoy watching the creation and exhibition of leaf art depicting the Big Dipper and Daruma, the temple’s main deity.
