Jindaiji 2026
When people hear “Jindaiji,” many immediately think of soba noodles. Around the temple, about 20 soba restaurants stand in a row, including long-established shops founded around 1860 and even a shop where the writer Seichō Matsumoto once wrote his novels. The area has a deep history and unique character.
It is said that Jindaiji soba was already introduced as “exceptionally exquisite” during the Edo period. Because the land surrounding Jindaiji was unsuitable for rice cultivation, people are believed to have offered buckwheat flour to the temple. The name “Jindaiji soba” became widely known due to the tradition of “making soba at Jindaiji to welcome guests.”
