One Heart, One Community – Connected Spirits, Resonating Takasaki Matsuri
As you step out of the west exit of Takasaki Station, you’ll be greeted by the vibrant sounds of festival music and taiko drums. Crowds fill the streets, with traditional arts like float processions and mikoshi parades taking center stage, alongside rows of food and game stalls. The highlight of the first night is one of Gunma Prefecture’s largest fireworks displays, lighting up the sky with around 15,000 fireworks.
For locals, Takasaki Festival is a source of pride and a hallmark of summer. Unlike shrine-originated traditional festivals, it was initiated by citizens, made by citizens, and continues to be a participatory event representing the community’s spirit. This is what makes it so beloved.
