The Great Festival of Fujisaki Hachimangu Shrine 2024
The “Fujisaki Hachimangu Shrine Autumn Annual Festival” is the annual festival of the Fujisaki Hachimangu Shrine, located in Chuo Ward, Kumamoto City, Kumamoto Prefecture.
The various events of the grand festival take place over five days, concluding on the third Monday of September (Respect for the Aged Day). The highlight of the festival is the procession (Mikoshi Gyoretsu) held on the final day. Among the notable attractions is the procession of “Zuihyo” (attendants accompanying the portable shrine) and “Kazariuma” (decorated horses) that follow the portable shrine. The decorated horses, presented by over 60 groups in recent years, march through Kumamoto City with lively calls like “Dokai, Dokai” and the sounds of trumpets, creating a vibrant atmosphere.
