Tofukuji Temple Autumn leaves When 2024
The autumn foliage spreading across the valley viewed from the Tōtenkyō Bridge is truly breathtaking. The Tōtenkyō Bridge, connecting the main hall, Fumon-in, and Kaizandō, features dozens of maple trees known as “Tōten Momiji,” with leaves splitting into three and turning golden. The view of the foliage from the Tōtenkyō Bridge is renowned for its splendor, offering a vivid display of the picturesque valley during the season. The vast temple grounds, covering over 200,000 square meters, showcase notable attractions such as the Three Gates designated as national treasures and the Honbō Garden with moss and paving stones creating a checkerboard pattern.
Furthermore, the temple’s sub-temple called “Kōmyōin,” known as the “Rainbow Moss Temple,” opens its limited-time-only “Nami Kokoro no Niwa” (Waves of the Heart Garden) during the autumn foliage season. The peak period for enjoying the autumn foliage typically falls between late November and early December.
Highlights:
- During the season, a phenomenon known as “Sengyokukan” occurs, creating a sea of clouds made of maple trees. The view from above resembles gazing down upon a sea of autumn foliage.
- From November 18th (Saturday) to December 3rd (Sunday), there is a reservation-only illumination event held from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM (please check the official website for detailed information).
