Tottori Shan-shan Festival 2025
The Tottori Shan-shan Festival is a summer event held every mid-August in Tottori City.
It began in 1961 as a local shrine procession, and in 1965 incorporated the traditional “Inaba Umbrella Dance” from Tottori.
The main highlight is the “Mass Dance,” where thousands of dancers carry colorful umbrellas and parade through the city center, accompanied by the jingling sound of bells attached to their umbrellas.
The festival’s name “Shan-shan” comes from this distinctive bell sound, as well as the sound of the hot springs bubbling at Tottori Onsen.
